Reiki and the Koshas

An indepth exploration for Reiki Enthusiasts

Manomaya Kosha: Mental/Emotional Body.

Sunday, May 4th 10:30-1:30pm

In April we just touched began to explore this amazing layer so this is a continuation of the Mental/Emotional Body.

This is an opporunity for Reiki Enthusiasts….. whether you’re a seasoned practitioner, or just dabbling in Reiki…. to soften and truly ‘feel into’ and ‘play with’ one aspect of the powerful healing energy in Reiki. Although this is a part of a series on the Koshas, each workshop is designed to both meld with the previous offerings AND be stand-alone as well. Students who haven’t attend previously will find it seamless to pop in.

We start with the traditional definition of a concept, like kosha, and then in partnership with other curious practitioners, we get curious….What does Reiki want me to know about the Manomaya Kosha in this moment? We push away nothing. We give ourselves permission to be pioneers…..to experience something new. And, we’re always both surprised and delighted by our new insights.

What is the traditional definition of Kosha?

In Eastern philosophy, the koshas are considered the energetic layers of your body that surround your soul. Sometimes, they’re referred to as “sheaths” or “casings.” There are five koshas that exist together and are encased, or nested, within each other. Although each session we focus on an individual layer …..they are interconnected with each other much like a threads of a tapestry.

What kosha are we exploring in May?

We’re diving deeper into the Manomaya Kosha. In Sanskrit, the word, ‘mano’ refers to thought forms, mental activity and awareness of thoughts. Getting in touch with this kosha involves:

  • Learning about the seat of the ego, where you sense of “I am” develops.

  • Exploring how stress, anxiety and emotional disturbances can arise when this layer is clouded by negative thoughts patterns or unprocessed emotions.

  • Uncovering old ingrained patterns of thought or behavior that no longer serve us (Samskaras). They are unconscious, they happen automatically, so we often overlook their power.
